120929-jay-zJay-Z Comes Home to repay a debt to Brooklyn” is an article found on nytimes.com that cover the first concert from Hip Hop Mogul Jay-Z on the opening night of brand new Barclay Center in Brooklyn.  The Barclay Center is the new home to the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets formally the New Jersey Nets. Brooklyn native Jay-Z is the perfect candidate to open the Barclay Center giving that he’s a small owner of the team who adds to the branding of the team.

The concert is the first out of eight shows for Jay-Z at the Barclay center. The article describes the energy, activities, and details to the show including the constant tribute theme to Brooklyn.  In addition to the article are map graphs of the Barclay arena including the floor plans of the arena via the event. For example, a map if it was a concert, basketball game, or hockey. Its give an inside look including where special places of the arena.  The article also has a slideshow of the opening night of the arena. The photos including outside view of arena with fans, protestors, police, a picture of the new team merchandise, a look at the sweets sold at the famous Brooklyn Junior’s restaurant, and of course of Jay-Z on stage.

This seems like a human interest piece, but also timely only because the Barclay center has recently opened and the NBA season has started with The Brooklyn Nets in full stride with a new team roster.  The proximity is relevant to New Yorkers especially Brooklynites.  This article effectively relevant to hip-hop fans that is inspire by Jay-Z. Who came from crime growing up to better himself and capitalize on what he learned in the past, in the streets, and become financially successful enough to add to his brand by help bring a team and arena to his home city.
